The Best Lip Balms

Things I love about the winter:

- Snow
- Staying in with a takeaway and a movie, all snug under a blanket, without feeling guilty
- Not having to get my legs out
- Hot water bottles
- Long, steamy baths
- Hot chocolate
- Eating lots and lots and not feeling guilty (we need that extra fat in these cold conditions don't you know!)

Things that I don't like about the winter:

- Rain, wind and freezing cold conditions (all at once)
- Getting a cold
- Dry hands
- Dry lips

Whilst there's not much you can do about the weather, there are a few things that help with the dry lips situation. Here are some of my tips.....

1. Make sure you are hydrated. Often, dry lips result from not drinking enough water.

2. Exfoliate your lips (gently) with a toothbrush once a week

3. Invest in a good lip-balm. Don't apply too often as this can actually dry out your lips, but definitely use one for protection when you're out and about!

Here are a few of my favourites....

- Since Cherry Healey introduced me to it, Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips has become one of my new favourite things. This wonder balm is made from medical grade lanolin and is said to reduce skin roughness by up to 40% in an hour. It can be used on everything  from baby's bottom's to eczma and nipples, but I prefer to apply it to my lips.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is a total classic and a favourite of models and makeup artists all over the world. If you are a fan of horses, you may well recognise the smell, as the formula has been  used to heal their hooves and skin problems for years. Fortunately for us, it also works on humans. This is another multi-tasker and is great for healing sun-burn, sorting out cuticles and working as a highlighter when applied to the cheekbones. It also makes a fabulous lip-balm.

- Cheap, cheerful and incredibly effective, Carmex was born in the 1930's and has been popular ever since. It has got a kind of cult status these days and as well as the classic recipe, is available in cherry flavour. Just as effective as the other pricier balms on the market, you can't really go wrong with this little yellow pot.

- I really like Balance Me. Their products are natural and not too pricy and they also work. Rose Otto Intensive Lip Salve has a lovely aroma and makes my lips feel soft and happy.
The ingredients are thus: 100% natural hyaluronic acid,  pharma grade lanolin, organic shea, mango and cocoa butters, rosehip, jojoba, virgin coconut oil, rose otto, rose geranium and palma rosa.

Here's to soft and kissable lips in time for Valentine's Day! Mwah xx
